The Community Health Conference 2025 took place in Bochum from November 20 to 21, 2025. PROTECT.Ing participated with a session on identifying and addressing the special needs of refugees.

The European Public Health Conference took place in Helsinki from 12 to 14 November 2025. PROTECT.Ing participated with a contribution on the reform of the Common European Asylum System and its implications for public health and other stakeholders.

PROTECT.Ing war mit einem Workshop der AG Identifizierung in Kooperation mit dem Berliner Netzwerk für besonders schutzbedürftige geflüchtete Menschen am Bundesweiten Netzwerktreffen Flucht, Migration und Behinderung beteiligt.

Results from PROTECT.Ing will be presented at this year’s European Public Health Conference in Helsinki.

Participation in symposium “Social exclusion, vulnerability, and tightening asylum laws – Quo vadis social work? Science and practice in dialogue on arrival conditions and professional ethics”

PROTECT.Ing participated in the nationwide network meeting on flight, migration and disability with a workshop for the Working Group on Identification, held in cooperation with the Berlin Network for Vulnerable Refugees.

At the annual conference of the German Society for Social Medicine and Prevention (DGSMP), we presented insights into the design of the PROTECT.Ing requirements workshops in the lecture session “Innovative Care Approaches”.

In a publication in the Public Health Forum, we present the European regulations for identifying and addressing the special protection needs and vulnerabilities of refugees and provide insights into their implementation in Germany to date.

PROTECT.Ing was represented at the World Congress on Migration, Ethnicity, Race and Health with a presentation on the impact of the reform of the Common European Asylum System and its implications for practice, policy and research.

We would like to highlight the opening of the ‘ Zivilgesellschaftliche Fachstelle zur Identifizierung und Umsetzung besonderer Schutzbedarfe ’, a Civil Society Expert Office for the Identification and Implementation of Special Protection Needs.

Representatives from various organisations and institutions from four federal states in Germany (Hesse, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate) came together for another PROTECT.ING requirements workshop.

We are developing an add-on module for a practice management software to simplify and standardize the application process for the cost coverage of medical treatments.

To address the special needs of pregnant refugee women in initial reception centers, a software module is currently being developed with the involvement of healthcare professionals.

In a PROTECT.Ing workshop, we gathered perspectives from various stakeholders in Bavaria on the identification and documentation of special protection needs in AnkER reception centers, in order to develop requirements for a digital tool.

At a conference held by the Berlin Network for Vulnerable Refugees, we exchanged views on the impacts of the reform of the Common European Asylum System (GEAS), as well as on the strengths and weaknesses of screening tools.

As part of the requirements analysis, a PROTECT.Ing workshop on the identification and addressing of special protection needs in initial reception centers was held in Baden-Württemberg.
